The food was good, I had the hibachi chicken and shrimp which was decent, the spicy tuna and cali maki didn't impress me much I've had better. Reservation is a must, although u still wait a little past your res time. Weekends r crowded.

I have been coming here for 15 years. Since I was probably 6. It is my favorite favorite favorite hibachi restaurant. The steak is always done perfectly. I live for the salad (with extra dressing to pour on my rice). Both the owners and the chefs always remember my family, and they frequently remember me, even when I'm not with my family, and I don't even live in the suburbs any more. Unfortunately, I went from eating here a few times a month to eating here almost never, so now it's a special treat.

Great food, good service. Food is fresh and they do a good job in presenting that fact to you. Rice is great. Soup and salad are just ok. Cooks are pretty entertaining. Fuji's Sushi rocks - try it. Enough said. The decor and ambiance really suck. Inside the restaurant sort of looks like my grandparents' basement - it needs a makeover. The chairs are somewhat on the older side and are very uncomfortable. Price wise, it is a little on the expensive side; especially the drinks. There are quite a few hibachi grills in the Chicagoland area and I do believe this is likely one of the most expensive.

Unless you want to go into the city for Sushi, you will not find better than that created at Fuji. As for the meals cooked at the tables, you won't find better in the city. Not this city - not any city in the U.S. The Sushi is fresh and artfully prioduced. The Hibachi and Terriyaki dinners are plentiful and the filet is perfect. They offer chicken, scallops, salmon, shrimp, filet and lobster. If you want a real treat, try the shrimp or lobster with golden sauce. The salad dressing is addictive and so is the homemade ginger sauce. It's a little pricy but you're getting what you pay for here. Not to mention, the owner and staff are very cordial and have created a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I give four stars - which is about as high as I go. It would take something truly extraordinary and fantastic from all perspectives to cause me to rate any place five stars - this one is close though.

Went here with some girlfriends to celebrate my birthday. The food was EXCELLENT and the service was great. Get the Garlic Sauce, you won't be sorry. Just as good as fancier hibachi restaurants, if not better, and much more reasonable. The four of us for dinner and drinks paid $50 each. Not bad.

Great place! Found the suggestion here on yelp, thought we would check it out. We wanted a hibachi style dinner to celebrate my husbands birthday. Was going to go to Hamada but wanted someplace different. I was a bit skeptical considering its it a strip mall and looked a bit isolated but once we walked through to door, wow totally different than its outdoor fasade. Service was very pleasant, our chef was great and very funny. The food was very good. I felt that portions were perfect, I even boxed leftovers. Great favors, a bit mild on the seasons which was good for me. I didn't swell up the morning after from sodium like I usually do when we eat out. I ordered teriyaki steak which was served with soup, salad, fried rice with some shrimp, veggies, steak and optional mushrooms, and three dipping sauces.Everything was good. Only dislike was that there were no free refills on soda or tea. Thought that was odd. Your paying enough for the meals, refills on your drink purchase should be refilled no charge. Place was clean and they were very busy. We made reservations, I would recommend if you do hibachi. The also have a sushi area, however we did not try. We would definitely go there again and recommend it to others. It is a diamond in the rough.

We love this place. Everytime we go, my review seems to be the same. I would recommend this to everyone! The portion size is well worth the price and the flavor is excellent! We all had the Filet Mignon. Call for reservations and enjoy!

I wouldn't give this place any stars. If you live close to orland park head to tinley for some Tokyo steakhouse or mokena for Zuki steakhouse - highly recommended if you want good service and amazing food. The ginger sauce tastes like an orange peel, the chicken was dry, the cAlamari taste like rubber, no noodles are served with a $30.00 combination plate, the rice was bland, there was nothing but broth in my soup, and the waitress failed to tell us there was no free refills on fountain drinks until I was on my 4th coke and still charged me for it. I've never been more upset with a dining experience in my life until now. Although the chef that put on the show for us was extremely nice everything else was horrible. And now I feel like I'm going to be sick.

I LOVE hibachi style Japanese (I once ate at Benihana 4 times in 5 days) and Fuji does it as well as anyone. While smaller and lighter in ambiance than Benihana, qualities which I have no issues with, I find the steak to be a bit tastier and more tender. The teriyaki chicken is consistently outstanding. The chefs are proficient and entertaining and the service is very good. Be sure to make reservations well ahead of time as the seating is limited and can fill up quickly on the weekends. My only complaint is that I have had to wait as long as 30 minutes beyond my reservation time to be seated.

We've been coming here for a few years. Theie steak and lobster is amazing, and the garlic sauce is to die for. One of my favorite restaurants!

I can't believe all the good reviews on this place and it makes me believe that most people who give Fuji high reviews haven't ventured out much to compare. My husband and I plus two small kids tried it and had some sushi rolls. Every roll from the tuna to the calamari roll was awful quality and taste. The rule of thumb I should have followed is never go to a habachi place for sushi but stupid me, I heard the sushi was good but it wasn't. I had the shrimp habachi. First, don't state that you're serving fried rice with it and have a bland tasteless sticky sushi grade rice. It's not the same! The grilled veggies should have been served cripsy but were soggy. How can this be????? My shrimp were tiny and then cut up on top of it! They should have been large to jumbo variety and the lack of freshness literally left a bad taste in my mouth. The teriyaki chicken was slathered with teriyaki sauce and another bad entree. My toddlers didn't even enjoy their steak and kept on spitting it out. And before I forget, the salads looked and tasted as if they came out of the dumpster. The greens were not fresh and the dressing (if you want to call it that) was a clump of a bland thick pinkish substance. Until this southside area demands better quality restaurants, this place along with other substandard places will continue to be popular. C'mon Orland Park, look at LaGrange, Hinsdale, Countryside and other communities?????? Step it up and get some tasteful quality restaurants. Very disappointed once again at the cheesy horrible restaurants in this area and this one is a restaurant we won't be returning to. I am literally having stomach cramps after this dinner.

My wife and I discovered this place when we were dating. We have made it a special event to never miss a meal here on our anniversary. We have not missed for the past 15 years. We have shared this place with our children and other friends/relatives/business associates. For over 20 years, the food quality has remained consistently excellent and the service has never faltered. The chefs have been the same for many years which tells me that they are treated well. It definitely shows ... This is a great family owned hibachi house with a seasoned truly professional staff. We will continue to patronize this fine establishment. You will not be disappointed.

One of the better hibachi restaurants in the Orland Park area. Like all previous reviews the food is pretty good. It gets pretty crowded on weekends, even for lunch. If you're planning on coming on the weekend make sure you make reservations. There is a non hibachi section near the bar and sushi bar if you just want the food without the show.

I have been going to this restaurant for years, it is easily one of my favorites. whenever friends or family are in from out of town this is a place they don't forget. the food is outstanding, the atmosphere is great and the staff works extremely hard at what they do. I would suggest a reservation if dining on weekend evenings as this place is no longer a well kept secret. If you go and have to drive a bit further for hibachi or sushi and pass some other similar places you'll find it was well worth it. Who would ever guess a place like this in a strip mall!

If you been to one teppanyaki-style (hibatchi) restaurant then you have been to them all. Fuji's is the kind of place that you have the duty to rate the service as well as the food. My only hope when i go to then places that I try not to penalize a establishment needlessly because of past hibatchi grill encounters. I thought the food and the 'show' were both average at best. Our chef almost seemed put-out that he had to fire up the grill with his tired body language. Having experienced the numerous styles and energies of each different chefs I have to say that either ours didn't bring his A-game or had none to bring. The food was not bad but there is no need to go out of your way for it. The prices were slightly high for the portion/quality. My friends had a good time when we went there but I would never tell them that I was underwhelmed by Fuji's. For sushi, it is lacking but all hibatchi restaurants seem to be in the same boat when it comes to aiming low in the 'sushi is not our draw' sort of way. If you are going out to have a dinner/show, this is not bad but it is only good for groups that want to get drunk and watch an onion spew smoke.

I have been going here with the family for over 3 years now, and we probably go at least once a month if not more. The food is scrumptious, the staff is friendly, and their prices are fair for the quality they are serving. The staff hustles, it's very rare to get bad service as they seem to try creating an inviting, family-like ambiance. I have an average Japanese place about 2 blocks from my house and I'll drive any day of the week 30 minutes to Fuji's for melt-in-your-mouth teriayki steak with hibachi veggies. I most certainly recommend!

Their meat isn't tender. Benihana is the best one I've been to. Most Americans who don't eat a lot of Asian food loves this place, but it's not that great. The meat is too hard and chewy and the taste is bitter.

Working downtown I pass many sushi places on the way home and in the Tinley/Orland Park area, this is our favorite. It has consistently excellent sushi. Their combo deals are priced very well, but the quality of the sushi is why we go. Fresh. Creative. Outstanding preparation and construction. This is just a great place for sushi and hibachi preparation (tableside) cooking. They also have carryout and it is our favorite carryout place too!

I have eaten here twice and all I can say it's OK. Would I return to this establishment, maybe. The atmosphere is gloomy and the last time I was there the wait staff was not the friendliest; it was almost like they did not wish to be there.

  • Monica V.

I went there for a friend's birthday about a year ago and it was pretty good; the chef put on a great show for us and the staff was very helpful when it came to choosing specialty drinks and sushi. My date and I had the vegetarian fare, which was very good, but a bit typical (carrots, shoots, mushrooms, etc.) Everyone else seemed to enjoy the steak and even the little kids liked their food. I wouldn't go back there on my own (for the price, I can get something I'd enjoy more) but if a group were going there, I wouldn't hesitate.

I love the Fuji Grill in Orland Park. It is tucked in to an unattractive strip mall motif. I have been here probably 7 times in the past 5 years. I always get a fantastic meal. They underwent some renovations in ~2004 which provided some much needed additional space. I recommend pretty much anything. I always get the Fillet/Shrimp combo. Others I have been there love the egg battered shrimp (I'm not as big of a fan of it b/c I think it drowns out the shrimp flavor). I am looking forward to my next trip there.

Hmm... this place was just ok to me. I had a reservation, arrived on time, still had to wait "10 - 15 minutes" (30 minutes) for a hibachi seat. The chef was very good actually. He tried to be entertaining... they have a routine there. The food was just ok. I had the teryaki chicken. The person with me had the hibachi steak and scallops. Neither of us thought it was great. We didn't think it was bad either though. The price is good for a hibachi place at least. Overall though, i'd probably go to another place in the area instead next time.

Easily the best restaurant in Orland Park. Authentic Hibachi-style cooking, great attentive staff, friendly cooks. Good sushi selection. Highlights are the unagi, tomago, sweet shrimp. Also some interesting combinations in the hand rolls. Spicy tuna hand roll is AMAZING! Recently remodeled, clean, spacious. Bar well stocked, good value. Overall, it's considered expensive by some, but in my book, quality means a little more costly than most, so it's definately not out of line. Egg battered lobster a highlight, anything with filet mignon great as well. Good teriyaki, and request the hot mustard (it's off the menu) Don't be put off by the strip mall location, this ain't your usual crappy suburban joint.

I have come here 2 years in a row for new years eve dinner. It's a special place. The chefs do all the standard fried rice flinging tricks that you might find elsewhere, but it's just so much less stuffy here. Personally I love the steak and scallops combo. Very reasonably priced and they pour their drinks strong. I can't wait to eat here again before ringing in the new year. I'll have to try some of there sushi rolls.

Yum yum yummmmmo! This place is great. While I've never been to Benihana, my friends tell me this place is so much better. The prices are great, and food is awesome. (Drinks are also reasonably priced too!) It does get busy on the weekends, however they do accept reservations. If you're in this neck of the 'burbs, it's worth a try!

Fuji has the best sushi ever! My sister drives in from the city for it. They will give you a complimentary cucumber salad. Their tea is good. We love the spicy mayo. You really can't go wrong with anything you order. Also, I have introduced many of my friends to sushi here. It works out well because their seafood is so fresh. As a side note...their fried rice is also super tasty. We really like the sushi chefs...very nice people

Absolutely amazing !!!!!!! I would go here every day if my pocket permitted. I would highly recommend the steak and lobster !!! If you looking for some of the best live food flipping, this is the place to be : ) you'll def get your money's worth !

Thanks to my fellow yelpers for sending me here. The food was good. The chef was very nice and entertaining. We paid about 100 bucks for a party of four so that wasn't too bad because we did the hibachi thing. I loved the intimate setting. It wasn't too crowded. The waitress that took our order was kind of rude. We felt really rushed. She gave us the "hurry up and say it" look and hand gesture, which is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 but I would still visit again. Maybe she was on her period.

    (4)
  • Jenny N.

Usually the staff is pretty nice, but when it's busy they are very attentive to you if you are a small party. (Plus it looks like they hired new helpers) The server messed up my order. I asked for spicy mayo on the side and there was extra spicy mayo on all the rolls and more on the side. I can't eat hot, but didn't want to waste it or have them remake it since we've already waited so long. So I asked for that eel sauce (just a lil bit) she brought this big dish full of it. I was surprised but then paid for it as extra sauce on the side! So she messed up my dish then charged me for extra sauce. Idk if she was money hungry, but that left a lasting impression. I give it an extra star only for the other girls there that are not trying to rob you.

The sushi is good, seems fresh, well made, might be overpriced. The hibachi on the other hand was very salty. Fried rice was also salty. It might be adjusted for westerner's taste, but too much sodium is not healthy.

Went for dinner on Thursday night to celebrate our anniversary. Arrived early to enjoy a drink at the bar. Well stocked and bartender was helpful and friendly. We decided to go with the habachi dinner. They start you off with a cup of onion soup which was excellent. Next was the salad. I found that to be a little wilted but the dressing was very good. Now for the show of having everything cooked in front of you. The shrimp appetizer was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The fried rice ok at best. We went with the steak and scallop combo and that was the highlight of the meal. Service was great and atmosphere was ok. I would definitely go again.

    (4)
  • Brian S.

This is the second time I have been here. And what I like is that it's NEVER all crowded like some of the other hibachi restaurants like chi tung or hamada of japan as I HATE waiting in the lobby, only to wait at the table again. That being said, we went on a sunday afternoon, and pretty much everything was really good. The fried rice was good, but I can make better at home simply because I use more vegetables and add chicken. I had hibachi steak and garlic shrimp. Steak was really good, and the shrimp was pretty good. but it had a little too much garlic on it IMO. I'll probably go with the regular hibachi shrimp next time. The chef was good as well though. Quick service there, so we were able to get in, get seated, and eat pretty quickly, which is always a plus in my book.

  • Lolo K.

Went to this place with my friend for the first time. Was the worst hibachi experience ever. I usually go to Zuki in Mokena , but wanted to try something new. The rice was doused with soy sauce with tiny specks of orange and green, no flavor at all. Then came the vegetables, again with the soy sauce no flavor. I ordered golden shrimp and they tasted like cardboard. The golden sauce was flavorless. I probably ate less than half my meal. We decided to order a sushi roll called Volcano. This roll was basically rice with a huge mountain of strings of imitation crab mixed in mayonnaise, disgusting !!!!! I will never come to this hole in the wall restaurant ever again. The service was the only good part of the meal.

There are a number of these Japanese steak houses around the neighborhood and we have gone to this one a couple of times. This establishment is situated in a strip mall just a few storefronts down from the Orland Park Post Office on 151st. All in all, this is a very nice Japanese style dinner place. They have done very well over the years and have enlarged their restaurant into the storefront next door...always a good sign. As per usual, the dining setup is where you sit around a giant hot plate and watch as the cook prepares your food while you schmooze with your neighbors. It is a lot of fun and the food is pretty good. The main entrees are shrimp, scallops, steak, chicken...and you can get any combination of the above...and they come Hibachi style or Teriyaki...so you have many choices. We had typical entrees - Hibachi Chicken & Shrimp, Hibachi Steak, and Teriyaki Chicken...all were nicely prepared on the hot plate and served up piping hot. The fried rice which comes with every meal is my favorite, especially because it is so fresh when served up immediately after cooking. They also have a full serve liquor license, but the Japanese beers are the highlight. It is a fun place to bring guests as the atmosphere is raucous and friendly. The place is loud so it is really not a romantic date spot, but it is a nice change of pace for dinner.

I met my (wonderful) boss here for dinner one night. I was appalled at the service. We ordered a $75 sushi boat and she just basically threw it down and walked away. I have no idea what that was about. The food made up for it, I guess. I've had better to be honest. I was counting calories and limited on what I could have though. The bar served up some tasty and cheap drinks. This is on the bottom of my list as far as sushi places. There are several better options in the area. Hibachi is always packed here. Maybe the service is better there. I doubt it.

Great golden shrimp. I asked for light oil and butter and they didn't use a lot. Veggies were fresh. Everyone was pleasant. Bathrooms are fresh smelling and cleanly. Not a lot of ppl here. It's about 5pm on a Monday.

I loved this place! Me and my boyfriend went here for hibachi a while ago and we both really enjoyed it. They seem to have a great variety on their menu! They offer a lot of great sauces with the meals that are more interesting than the standard shrimp sauce and soy sauce that are usually offered at Japanese Steakhouses. I found our chef to be entertaining but he didn't do any tricks that really impressed me... They don't seem to do a lot of really cool stuff anywhere like they used to, I wonder why? But overall we had a really nice experience and I can't wait to go back. Their sushi looked amazing and I will definitely be going to try it soon!

The wife and I had a taste for Japanese food and we seen Fuji so we decided to stop there. We ate at the grill. We had the hibachi steak and it was vary good. We got a lot of food for the price the wife took some of it home. The service good.

Brought my family here for hibachi based on my yelp search. Great place and lives up to its rating. The quality of the steak used for the hibachi was surprisingly high end. The sushi was also above what I expected. We ordered the Corona roll which was awesome. Kids had the chicken and steak and loved it. Of course hibachi is expensive and this place follows that priceline. Family of 4, with 4 glasses of wine (for the adults) came to $161.00. That included an appetizer. We had fun and a great meal. The cook put on the usual hibachi show flipping the egg, volcano of fire and steam, and set the whole grill a flame as well. Great time had by all. The entrance is deceiving since it's in a strip mall. However you will enjoy!

In my opinion this is, by far, the best sushi you can get in the area, and maybe in the a few states! I've traveled a great deal in my life, and always try the sushi shops wherever I go. And for fantastic reasons, I compare all sushi to this place. I've yet to find a more delicious sushi roll than the Volcano Roll. Sure other sushi places have rolls with more, expensive ingredients, but so far, nothing can touch the level that the Volcano Roll exists. Their other rolls are great too. I love eating near the chef, watching him prep his delicious masterpieces, waiting for my group to eat it! I always tip him too, he speaks, on a few occasions, but is usually very busy making the sushi for the whole place! Hibachi service is exceptional too. I love watching them sear my scallops while I eat the rice they have already prepared for me. The way they master the cooking surface, and do little tricks is always a good show. They can even do take out rolls, but I love the atmosphere so much I try to stay and sit in. I'll be back... soon! I've already been back, and I keep going back.

Excellent food. Sushi is phenomenal. I recommend at least pairing one roll with your hibachi, as most people get right to the hibachi table and forget the sushi bar is there.

I'm just reviewing the sushi. For a suburban sushi restaurant it was on the pricy side (10 bucks for 3 pieces of sashimi on average), however the quality and presentation were top notch. We sat down and the girl had a couple of rolls, spicy tuna and vegetable tempura, which were both good. I tried the spicy tuna and it had more heat that most I have had. I had an excellent roll with eel, cream cheese, and asparagus. The sushi and sashimi was the real highlight. I had saba, maguro, and tako, all of which were excellent. The tako was as clean as I have ever had. The ikura is what I would expect as well. The best part of the meal was that they had uni, fresh and in season. It was the best uni I have had to date. It was like the bottom of the ocean floor. Simply amazing. Overall for 2 people, dinner was about 80 bucks before tip, and no alcohol was consumed. It's not a daily dining place for sure, but once in a while, it's a worthwhile treat to dine here.

Hibachi Grill was below my expectations . I had shrimp and scallops both were poor quality "cheap tasting". We were charged for soda refills without informing us before ordering. The waitress was not attentive, in fact she was not friendly at all. Moving forward....I would rather go to my favorite Hibachi Grill in Tinley Park, even if I have to pay a little more...

We've tried many of the Japanese steakhouses in the area but Fuji is the one that we prefer and keep coming back to. It's also the only one we mention to others looking to find some great hibachi cooking and/or sushi. Meals come with an abundance of food and everything is extremely flavorful. Sauces are made in-house and showcase the care and attention they put into their business. The fried rice that comes standard with dinners is better than any other rice or noodle starter you've had at other Japanese steakhouses. All orders of steak are filet and it just melts in your mouth. Salmon and scallops are cooked perfectly if you're in the mood for seafood. No matter what you order it's bound to be great.

Delicious food, check. A good show, check. Quantity of food, huge. I really had a great time at Fuji. You could easily drive right by and never go in because, well, it's in a strip mall. However, the inside is just like any other great hibachi restaurant. I also liked the fact that you don't have to sit in the area by the grills, and could order other menu items at a regular table. My only complaint is that the soup that came with my meal was only luke warm. Everything else was wonderful.

Sushi rolls tastes good, however, are not rolled properly. It usually cracks on the sticks before I eat it. Not a cheap resturant compared to suburb. Atmosphere is good. Staff is good and friendly on average.

Good food and slightly healthier than your typical hibachi grill (no noodles). Looks small from the outside, but a pretty comfortable seating area on the inside. Prices are about on par with the rest of hibachi market. If you are hungry, can't go wrong with this choice.

Amazing amazing yummy sushi!!!! I had the Mexican roll and the corona roll for the first time- both were so good. Also had sashimi- very very nice!! Pretty much seemed like anything here you can't go wrong. Ambiance is ok..it's a sushi steakhouse...like a Domo 77...I didn't have hibachi and I heard it's not all that so I didn't bother. I also heard it's usually very busy, but the day I went was great. If you're looking for a good sushi spot in the Orland park area this is it.

I've been coming here since trying Hamada and realized how much better Fuji is. I am writing an updated review because now I come during lunch on the weekends. Not only is the food a little cheaper, but the amount of food is still very filling. I went to Hamada to try their lunch and ordered their steak and the quality of meat is bad. When I say bad, I mean, the steak tasted like beef you get from a Chinese restaurant. This place is usually not busy if you come right around lunch time and I have enjoyed it every time. I will not be returning to Hamada again the future.

Owner Lisa Jung and her ever talented head hibachi chef Joey offer the highest quality food with a great presentation and a family friendly environment considering a dining experience of this caliber. I have been a frequent customer for 16 years and have passed the tradition down to my children. Fuji far surpasses the Benihana chain and considering the influx of knock offs that have popped up in the area, we've been to the all, Hamada, Sapporo, Chi-Tung, Fuji blows them away. Down town quality in the SW burbs. Now, a touchy subject sushi. Sushi chef Yang offers the best creations South of Madison Street. Always fresh, diverse offerings, excellent presentation. You will not find better Sushi on the South Side.

Their sushi is the best. Literally hands down the best in the burbs! It's really expensive but it's worth it. Try the orland park roll, sooo spicy and delicious!!! Also no free refills on any drinks even soda which is ridiculous. The hostess/owner is rude but their sushi keeps me coming back.

This place is a diamond in the rough. Tucked away in a strip mall I would have never guessed this place would be serving such wonderful sushi (we did not do the hibachi style dinner here). My wife said the spicy tuna was the best she ever had. The rolls are full of ingredients and don't use tricks like adding more rice to appear bigger. All of our rolls were very tasty. The decor and atmosphere is a little laid back (the servers wear T-shirts & were a lot of the dinners) and there are some minor eye sores (duck tape holding the sushi glass case together) so I'm assuming they spend the majority of their expenses on the quality food, because they're prices are more in line with mid-range sushi places in Chicago proper. I won't ask for lower prices, and I'd definitely eat there again, but I'd like to see a little more upkeep before I think about making a trip there when I'm not in the area.

This is the white castle of sushi. We ordered three different rolls and all of them tasted pretty bland, kind of how Dominick's "sushi" tastes. Also the "scallop tempura" didn't taste like scallop, nor did it taste like tempura. It tasted like some kind of deep fried imitation fish cake cut in squares. The place also smells like spoiled meat. Overall we went because we were hungry. But it's kind of like when you are hungry, can't think straight, and end up eating McDonald's and shortly thereafter hate you life choices. Basically this place will make you rethink your poor life choices. The one star is for the speed with which they refill your water... Which is quite often, so you can drown you sorrows and cleanse your gut from the horrendous food.

Got there for hibachi & were seated right away -got our drinks & soup. Told we were waiting on a chef. 45 minutes later we had to ask for refills & our salads. Then we noticed a table that was just sat, got their salads ASAP & a chef was firing up the grill. Really? When we expressed our dismay & said we were leaving, they politely gave us a check for $16 (for 2 Mai Tais) yet no apologies. We politely told them to piss off & left. Noticed several trays of seafood sitting out around grills for long periods as well. Last time we went 2 years ago, 4 of our party of 6 had terrible food poisoning. Going to stick with TOKYO STEAKHOUSE on 179th. Great service & much cleaner & fresher than thus old, dirty, unhygienic place.

Someone said it best, "Fuji Japanese Steak House is a diamond in the rough. Their food was surprisingly very good. I gave Fuji five stars because they have to best sushi in the Chicago-land hands down. The chef's are great and friendly, but the servers are a little "confused". I love the owners, as soon as you enter there right there to great you. I think they could do a little bit more with the decor, but it's not unbearable, just a little awkward art work. Overall, Fuji is an excellent place to take your family or a date, you will always be entertained by the chef's while presented with a delicious dining experience.

The hibachi was fun and entertaining! The food was good and tasty. I order the chicken and my husband order the steak and sushi. The hibachi came with veggies and rice with the house sauce that tasted good. The lobster looked good and I will plan order that next time.

Having grown up in Orland Park, I'm not sure how I missed this place. It has been right under my nose this whole time. Located in a strip mall on a street full of strip malls, you could miss this place. The restaurant is nothing fancy. The ambiance is cozy and family friendly. You can be loud in this place which is important for my group of friends! We had about 10 people which was the max for one hibachi grill station. Our server was very attentive making sure that the cocktails were flowing. Very important for this rowdy group! The food was your typical hibachi fare - nothing fancy. Everything I had was fresh and flavorful. I don't know what kind of soup it was (miso?), but it was delicous - a perfect way to whet my appetite. I ordered the hibachi scallops and shrimp. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the shrimp was fresh. One thing to note about choosing how you want your shrimp prepared is that "golden" means you have this buttery batter made with egg yolks that sits on top of the shrimp. While a little bit tastes good, too much was, well, too much. I could feel the plaque buildup forming on my arteries. Yikes. The hibachi chef was entertaining, but probably could have done more tricks. My friends are like kids, so you need to do a lot to hold their attention! That's probably the only reason why I had to drop a star on this rating. Overall, I was really happy with this dining experience and so were my friends. We'll definitely be back.

  • Michael M.

Fuji failed to meet my high expectations. While decent, I would place it only slightly above Benny Hanna in quality. No offense to the other reviewers, but I'm not certain that they have been to a truly good Hibachi resturaunt. The worst part of the experience was when they turned off the light at the table, leaving us sitting there in the dark after they were finished. It's far too dark, the chef's aren't as interested as they should be. If you want a quality Hibachi experience, go to Shinto in Naperville, IL mM

LOVE LOVE LOVE their sushi!! Absolutely my favorite! Been to several other places for sushi rolls, and nothing can compare with theirs. Everytime my friend and I go, we always get the Dragon roll, and the Fuji Crunch Roll, and then one other we haven't tried yet. But those two are amazing! I have had the hibachi a couple times, and it is also very good. Show is great, per usual hibachi shows. The staff is very friendly and helps to seat you right away. If you are going at busy times, like dinner later in the week, it would help to get there earlier especially if you have a bigger party.

Came here for mom's birthday and had a blast! We did the hibachi and the food was good. The chef was quite a character. Everyone received generous portions. I think we all had steak and something. Mine was steak and garlic shrimp and the hubby had steak and scallops. the scallops were cooked perfectly and my garlic shrimp rocked. The birthday celebration was a lit candle in a basket with the entire staff singing happy Birthday and most of the restaurant clapping along. I would definately do Fuji again. Best said by the four year old girl at our table - "that was the BEST show I have ever SEEN"

Absolutely disappointing in every way. Typical hibachi joint. These things are poppin up everywhere. That said....the bar has been set relative to expectations. Lunch usually gets you the soup, salad and hibachi entree. Dinner nets you ice cream, tea, noodles etx. Well here one only gets "onion soup." The onion soup is chicken broth with ONE slice of green onion. Why bother? Choosing a salad over the soup is not an option. Like another said, they list the three sauces like they are additional food items included with youre meal. The no refills thing is just insultingly cheap and tacky. If the glasses were somewhat normal in size, this obvious attempt at nickel and diming could be somewhat overlooked. But a teeny 6 or 8 oz glass? Seriously. The portions are indeed smaller than other hibachi places. I had the chicken and shrimp combo. The shrimp were nauseatingly fishy. Oy. My fishy shrimp consisted of 4 solidly medium sized shrimp hacked in half to equal 8. Probably about an oz or so. And its also freakishly dark in there. Service was fine. But still.....Pass on this one.

Consistently great sushi! Hands down the best sushi restaurant this side of Chicagoland. Habachi is always good as well. Unfortunately I developed a shellfish allergy and can no longer eat the sushi but the steak habachi is to die for... so is the sushi but literally for me now :(

Being a city girl I am usually skeptical of places like this because the only exposure I have ever had to hibachi restaurants were Benihana outings with the family as a teenager. However I figured it was time to try it again as an adult and not at some chain restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food that was served, the fillet was perfectly cooked medium rare and the shrimp was not overcooked. The soup was no more than an onion soup with a slice of mushroom(I was expecting miso), the veggies were cooked perfectly and the rice was not over seasoned The sushi looked really good so I plan to go back and give that a try, overall a really nice place to take a group or a date.

I LOVE this place!!! The food is excellent (I've had both the habachi and the sushi.), the services is friendly and very good, and the chefs are very entertaining. The only downside is with the habachi it's a fairly drawn out meal so it's not the place to go if you're in a hurry.

  • Jenessa K.

This place is great! I love going here, we typically make the drive to here for special occasions. The atmosphere is fun I like the show they put on. I could see that show the chefs put on 10 times over and I STILL get mesmerized by it. I would highly recommend making a reservation especially on the weekend. One of the things I love is they give you a ton of food, they ration it out along the way. Salad here (I recommend the house dressing) rice there, some veggies and so on. This place is something different its nice to shake things up and go to one of these places.

Visit was on 4-5-12. Did not have the habachi just had sushi. I normally never write reviews (although I do use yelp fervently) but this place has me compelled to write a review. Service - terribly rude server- after each item we ordered she would say "ok is that all?" There were four of us this happened to each person. Also she kept glancing around as if we were the least of her priorities. I'm easy to please when it comes to service (served at a high end restaurant downtown during college so i sympathize with servers) and this was terrible. Food: a lot can be forgive if the food is good. In this case it added insult to injury. Nigiri pieces looked like they were hacked at with a butter knife. Super white tuna (escarole) was water logged - clear indication of deep freezing. Masago did not fill the top- you could see the rice spots if you looked straight down at the nigiri. Dont get me started on their unagi, hamachi, or tuna. I was going to get uni, my fav, but NO WAY at this place. We tried the mango monstrosity of a special roll and that was horrid. Their spider roll, spicy tuna roll, dragon, and tempura roll- were decent but way overpriced. Paid $120 whereas I could have gone to Ichiro on 151st, Lawrence's Fish Market, Benihana Lombard's Bonzai hour and had a far superior meal for 1/2 the price. For the same price Mirai we spent $140 the last time out and that is FAR superior in every way. If you're stuck in Orland do yourself a favor and skip this place... Go to Ichiro instead.

    (1)
  • Nick G.

Excellent food and presentation, all-around. However, I found the sushi priced a bit high for my liking. I would much prefer Ichiro over Fuji for sushi any day. Apart from the sushi, the hibachi scallops were outstanding! I'm a huge fan of scallops, and these were probably the best scallops I have ever had.

This was just an awesome place to go for sushi! The sushi was some of the freshest we have experienced on the south side. The prices were in line with all the other local sushi places. The service was superior. We did not have to wait for anything. We are definitely putting this place at the top of our list! Thank you so much!

  • Mr. sushi G.

I have tried both sushi and hibachi at this establishment. 1. Sushi The sushi selection is EXTREMELY LIMITED. There are only about 7 different maki (rolls) total. No special maki here. The quality of the maki was good, although fairly small. The maki was WAY OVERPRICED. $8 for a tiny spicy tuna roll is INSANE. The nigiri (rice with fish on top) was fair in quality, but very sloppy, and again, EXTREMELY OVERPRICED! Sake (Salmon), Maguro (Tuna), Himachi (Yellowtail) all $3/pc or higher. The quality of the sushi is not worth this price. Sushi: 6.5/10 Value: 4/10 2. Hibachi The Hibachi was priced fairly. The quality of the steak and chicken was very good, however portions were somewhat small. The fried rice was very bland. Onion soup is served instead of the traditional miso. 3. Table Service The chef was very nice, but was not as entertaining as in most hibachi restaurants, and was unable to execute all of his "tricks" properly. As soon as he was finished cooking, he turned the light off over our table and left us eating in the dark. Sounds strange, I know. 4. Wait Staff Service The waitress was friendly. She was not very quick on the drink refills though. She also took the plates of everyone eating just sushi, so when the sushi came out, all we had were little tiny appetizer plates. Even though it was at least an hour before close, the staff began cleaning the restaurant and tables right next to us with strong pungent cleaner, which I didn't really appreciate. Overall, I think my money is best spent somewhere else. I'm not from around this area, so I cannot make alternate recommendations, however, I would suggest you evaluate other options before coming here.

Came here with the fam for my brothers 30th Birthday. The place is decorated really nice and has a cool bar area and non-hibachi sitting area in the front. The outside of the restaurant does not look like much and unless you were specifically looking for it, you'd probably not know that it was there! The food was excellent and probably the best hibachi place outside of the city. Way better than Hamada in Tinley and cheaper too. I had the spicy steak but I also tried my moms teriyaki chicken and steak. The shrimp appetizer was delicious. Our chef was excellent, really entertaining and funny. Service was quick and efficient. We will be back soon!

Typical chop-chop, but great flavors and portions. Ambience is so much better since they expanded and you don't feel so close to the other tables. This is not a weekly or evenly monthly place to go as $$, but a great treat when you do. Would highly recommend for date night, (a guy proposed the evening we were there :) special occassion.

This place has gotten more popular over time. When I walked in we were seated immediately. When we left there was a line. The first thing you notice is the odor of fish. Yes that is what they serve, but every sushi joint in town has it under control. Second, the place seems as though it could use a scrub down. We were seated by the sushi bar so the service was fantastic. We started with shrimp tempura. Now I have never seen 6 huge prawns on one dish before. The only thing is they had a fishy taste to them, and that reminded me of the smell. Then we went all out with the Corona roll, Friday maki and Ericas special. They were very good and I was quite suprised. The presentation was fabulous! I wasn't quite finished so I got an Ichiban. I should have quit when I was ahead as I was pulling bones out of my mouth from the eel. With three drinks the tab came to just under a hundred bucks. I think my money would have been better spent at Big Tuna or at Tokyo Steak House.

Never again. OVER PRICED for the amount of food you get. The thing that really irked me was a glass of probably 8 oz. of soda. NO REFILL! WTH??!? I'm no fatso but c'mon! Really? That just turned me off. To be fair: + They have a hibachi section (we ate at the sushi section) + Service was on target. Empty plates were taken away ASAP. - MENU CONSPIRACY THEORY? We were given the sushi menu. I asked if they had other items like teriyaki, noodles, katsu, etc. The waitress said yes and gave me another menu. Why not just give us all menus? Weird. - I got a teriyaki chicken dinner w/ miso soup, rice, and salad. Weird thing is: The menu says "onion soup". I asked the waitress if that can be substituted for miso soup (standard in all the Japanese restaurants I've been to so far). She said yes. ---- I don't get it. Is this a way for management to save a little? Offer onion soup vs miso soup...but if the customer wants it, give them miso? Why not be up front, dude? Weird again! -Over priced for the amount of food you get. The teriyaki dinner I got says "W/ onion soup, rice, salad, & 3 kinds of sauces" Really? Why even mention the 3 kinds of sauces as if the customer has to be grateful for those? It should come standard with the dinner combo. It's not like the 3 kinds of sauces will fill you up. It's just annoying how they try to sound like you're getting a lot of food for your $. SKIP THIS PLACE.

Obviously when you are trapped in a suburb, your choices for good sushi are few and far between. HOWEVER when you do find yourself OP bangin and craving some sush, this is definitely your best choice! As soon as you sit down, your server will offer you a hot towel to "clean" your hands. Then each person at the table will get a small cucumber salad consisting of a few pieces of cucumber, soy sauce, and sesame seeds. It's a small portion but it's free so I'll eat it!! My friends and I usually get the combo meal priced at $40 (kind of expensive but what else can you expect with sushi) which includes three (8) piece rolls and a miso soup and salad. The miso soup here is always SO delicious with the perfect amount of tofu that I have never chosen to eat the salad. Included in the combo is the Fuji crunch roll, the eponymous star of the menu and my personal favorite as well. After dinner your server will also bring you orange slices for dessert. A very nice gesture I think. There are definitely way better sushi places in the city but around this area Fuji is the absolute best! No other sushi places near by can compare.

I have been to a variety of different hibachi places, and by far this is my favorite. My family and I have been there tons of times- so much that the staff now recognizes us and occasionally does things like give us T-shirts. The food is absolutely delicious, and the show is usually done well (although you can tell if you have a younger chef, but that's true of anywhere). If you go, you HAVE to ask for the garlic paste. It's not something I've seen any other hibachi place have, and it's INSANELY delicious. I should note that I haven't tried their sushi, so I can't comment on it.

Wow. I was really expecting something fantastic according to the reviews. The others must never have had decent Hibachi. The food was okay. Incredibly over priced. The Chicken over cooked and dry, the vegetables and rice were very undercooked. If I wanted raw veggies, I would've ordered raw veggies. What was truly awful was the service. I called a week before to make our reservations for the group. I explained to the person on the phone that it would be separate checks and some would be arriving late. When we got there, the entire staff was clueless. The little girl who was our server never spoke above a whisper, I had to translate for others because no one could hear her. She couldn't speak enough English to properly communicate the items on the menu, and she didn't know what "ahi" was. Now, I don't appreciate a teenager who can't speak English arguing with me about being seated. I also don't appreciate being charged $27 for two things of Sake that took literally 20 minutes to get to us (I timed them). Oh, and you have to pay for soda refills. No. They don't tell you. You find out when the check comes. Terrible. I also had to separate the check for them. It wasn't hard. Everyone was on their own check. To sum it up: Bad food, Bad service. Avoid at all costs. Unless you like paying over $100 for two people for a really awful time.

From the outside looking in one may easily not notice this gem in the rough, but once dining you experience a party in your mouth. Honestly, the presentation of Fuji is older, it has been in the community for a long time and this is clear. But the fried rice is second to none and be it hibachi or sushi this place is unmatchable. I've tried many hibachi restaurants since learning of Fuji and I always come back upset that I ventured out. My taste buds practically beg for Fuji and I really can't blame them. I feel like Fuji is a secret, in a large group there are bound to be people who haven't been there, while others declare it's a favorite spot since their discovery. If you haven't made your maiden voyage to Fuji yet, go Lewis and Clark it up to their restaurant, I cross my heart you wont be disappointed. Suggestions you ask? Most Certainly! Hibachi- Filet Mignon and Scallops with fried rice. Some who aren't even steak fans go ga ga for this steak. Scallops are seared to perfection and the rice is the freshest imaginable! Sushi- You better believe the scallop volcano roll will not disappoint. Whatever magical sauce they drizzle this roll in puts a smile on my face every time.

The only thing that prevented this place from getting one star was the service. Our sushi roll came apart, bland fried rice and vegetables, the cook didn't use any salt or pepper, and the sauces were too watery. As my fiancée and I were walking in the parking lot after dinner we saw a couple walking towards us. We asked if they were going to Fuji for dinner and they said yes. We told them to save their money and go elsewhere.

We have been going to Fuji's steak house for years love the food and the people! They have some of the best Sushi I have ever had! My kids also love it a little pricy for a kids night out but they eat all the veggies and are entertained!

my family and I go here everytime we go out for a celebritory dinner. great atmosphere, fun, you get a whooole lot of great food and leftovers that will last days. it's worth the high prices. the teriyaki chicken is my favorite. the fried rice is fantastic. i am in looove with the ginger sauce they give you as a side. i haven't really ordered anything else as a dinner, but the sushi is also great for a quick lunch. i prefer california rolls, since they're the least exotic, but, volcano rolls and spider rolls are delicious, too.

Yang was our chef. He was entertaining and fun! The food was amazing and we brought our 2 1/2 year old twins, who had a great time. Definitely going back. Recommend the scallops and filet, cooked medium. Perfection!

One of my favorite spots! When near Orland and craving sushi this is definitely the place I go! The rolls are delicious and beautifully prepared and the fish is always fresh. My favs are the veggie and tekka rolls. They also offer hibachi for those less adventurous eaters, so there is definitely something here for everyone :)

I've been here twice now and both times have been great experiences. The price (as is the case at any of the hibachi-style restaurants) is what keeps this from a 5 star experience but if I was entertaining friends from out of town, Fuji would definitely be near the top of the restaurant list. Parking is plentiful. The chefs put on a great show and I've had both the chicken and steak and they are delicious. I did notice they don't season much, but I'm not into a lot of seasoning so it suites my tastes fine. They also have a sushi menu which is nice for people that like sushi...I'm not big on sushi but the people I'm with usually are, so it's nice to have the option. The wait staff was quick to pick up empty dishes and asked several times if I needed anything. Overall I like Fuji and as my rating states, I'm a fan.

Went and sat at the Sushi Bar which seemed somewhat dark and dingy. Ordered some hand rolls from the sushi chef which were overpriced and below average. One of the hand rolls I received didn't have that much rice in it and it cost me about 7 dollars. Disappointed with this place because I love sushi.

Recently went here instead of our usual Big Tuna for some celebratory sushi. I will not be heading back to Big Tuna- this place is aweome! The sushi was so fresh and the descriptions of what you are getting was very detailed. The selection of seafood is extensive. The fuji crunch and garlic shrimp rolls were delicious and the plum wine was the best I have had. Will be eating here for sushi again soon. The service was spot on even though it was very busy.

This is not sushi. This is a glass case of dry, stale fish, sold at sushi prices. "Toro" for $18 is just regular tuna with some slices in it. I am not impressed by whiz bang hibachi chefs working the grill and making "onion volcanos" or flipping shrimp tails into their hats (the main focus of this restaurant). I'm not looking for "creative" rolls. I want great sushi, and this is nothing more than a 5 on a 10 scale. Don't fall for the okey doke sushi reviews here, this is not good sushi.

Usually if you're just getting sushi you get seated right away, it's the hibachi you have to wait for. I've avoided this place as long as I could because it looked like a hole in the wall. Hello--it's next to a post office and a Michaels craft store. Sushi is good for Orland Park, but there's much better and tastier options in the city. Really liked the Crunchy Calamari.

Really great sushi. Family just decided to drive to Orland Park and strolled on in. Nice environment, incredibly attentive staff, and very good quality food. I'd drive the 45 minutes to come here again.

Ok this place just missed 4 stars and I would definitely go back. I will start with the good first. I had the Steak and Chicken Dinner. They started off with the soup then salad then fried rice then shrimp then the filet and then the chicken. For dessert you get Ice cream which I passed on and they bring you an orange chopped up which was a really nice touch. The filet was AWESOME, perfectly cooked and very flavorful. I really liked the side of vegetables too. They mixed broccoli, carrots, onions, zucchini and bean sprouts. (at bennihannas they only serve zucchini and onions). The side sauces we soooooo good, they had a horseradish sauce, home made soy sauce and a ginger sauce. All three were really good. The prices were a lot better than bennihannas by around 30-50 for dinner for 2. Our dinner was 130 out the door with tip and at bennihannas its usually 150-175. I would pick Fuji over bennihannas in a second. Now the reasons why I did not score it higher than 3 stars. The fried rice was bland, I like mine with a bit more vegetables in it. They only used carrots. Over all it was just mediocre. The chicken was over cooked, when I bit into it it was tough and dry. I'm sure that differs from chef to chef tho. The chef was a nice guy but very quiet and did not have the usual yakatori chef personality. His skills of doing all the tricks were good but I have to say he was just mediocre. The drink runner/server was very dull and he looked like he was in pain to be at work. Finally the decor is horrible, the place just looked dirty. I think if they fixed those few things that this place could be a 5 star place easy.

Wasn't impressed. Our reservation was for 7:15, was finally seated at 8:00. Very crowded, tables are right on top of each other. I was constantly bumped into by the waitstaff. Food wasn't impressive at all, no flavor. Very small portions also. Doubtful that I would ever return.

One of my favorite restaurants!! I always get the hibachi shrimp and scallops. Everything is so tasty. The rice, veggies, salad and soup. Great! And of course the preparation is so entertaining.

Nice little gem tucked away in a small plaza..great sushi! Great hibachi! Great service! Had lunch here with the fam and enjoyed every minute from the cooking entertainment to the bill. Good times! I highly recommend this place! I'd give the place 5 stars, but it was pretty pricey. :)
